On this day dedicated to Children's Grief Awareness, we are thrilled to announce that Lindsay Wooster-Halberg, MSW, LCSW has joined our team as Grounded Grief's first therapist dedicated to children and adolescents.
This feels like exactly the right moment to share this news. Children's grief is often overlooked, minimized, or misunderstood—and having a therapist who specializes in this work means we can better serve young people navigating loss.
Meet Lindsay
Lindsay brings a wealth of experience working with children, teens, and their parents in the space of grief and bereavement. Her expertise spans:
End of life work and anticipatory grief
Grief care for children and adolescents
Child development and age-appropriate grief support
Adolescent mental health
Parent support through their child's grief journey
Whether a young person is grieving the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent, friend, or pet—or navigating other significant losses like divorce, moving, or life transitions—Lindsay creates a safe, compassionate space where kids can be themselves and process what they're feeling.
Why This Matters
Children grieve differently than adults. They may not have the words yet. They might express their grief through play, art, or behavior rather than conversation. They need someone who understands their developmental stage, who can meet them where they are, and who won't rush them through their feelings.
Lindsay gets this. She knows how to hold space for the complexity of a child's grief—the confusion, the anger, the sadness, the moments when they seem "fine" and the moments when everything feels impossible.
And just as importantly, she supports parents too. Because watching your child grieve while managing your own grief? That's one of the hardest things a parent can face.
Now Accepting New Clients
Lindsay is accepting new clients starting in December 2025 and offers both:
In-person sessions at our Portland office
Remote sessions for families who prefer telehealth in Oregon and Washington
If your child or teen is navigating grief, or if you're a parent who needs support in helping your child through loss, we'd be honored to connect you with Lindsay.
